Internal Central Services
The Auditor's office handles the calculation of property tax rates, delinquent taxes, property transfers, and county ditch administration. This office is responsible for the internal county functions of accounts receivable/payable and recording of Commissioner minutes and responsible for issuing the following miscellaneous licenses: auctioneers, liquor, tattoo, transient merchants, and peddlers. In addition, elections are conducted out of this office. They handle all county voter registration, absentee ballots and is the central counting center.Finance
The Finance Office has the responsibilities to prepare, analyze, present, and monitor the County’s annual budget as well as maintain and inform the County Board on the financial health of the County.
The Human Resources Department provides comprehensive services to over 300 full and part-time employees in Steele County, as well as providing contracted HR services to another 160 employees in our merged human services agency, Minnesota Prairie County Alliance.
University of Minnesota Extension/Steele County Office
The Extension Office is your first stop for access to the resources of the University of Minnesota. The U of M Extension offers informal educational programs for adults and youth in the program areas. In addition, Master Gardeners are coordinated from this office.
The Steele County Veteran's Services Office is here to assist the approximately 4000 veterans in Steele County as well as their families, surviving spouses and dependent children. Every year the rules and regulations governing veterans' benefits become more complex and intimidating. We can advise these individuals of the benefits they may be eligible for in the form of Federal Veterans Benefits and State of Minnesota Veterans Benefits, we will complete the forms necessary to obtain these benefits, assist in obtaining the documentation necessary to support a claim for benefits, make certain the benefits the individual is entitled to are awarded and assist the individual to continue receiving the benefit once it has been awarded.
